OPIS
Calixto Maldonado, a willful man of the working class, owes everything to Augusto Marques-Cata, an ambitious politician with talent and a bright future. Their steadfast friendship, social inequality and the workings of politics put Calixto in the position of universal figurehead for Augusto. A woman with two names - Margarita Guanchez and Margot Fuentes - will come between them, destroying their friendship forever. In 1981, the young and beautiful Margarita Guanchez, born in a hard working but well-to-do provincial family, is torn between deciding to marry her high school sweetheart or entering the Miss Venezuela beauty pageant. Thatґs when she meets Calixto Maldonado, whom she believes to be a successful businessman, and whose extraordinary personal charm makes her fall in love almost immediately. It turns out that she has fallen in love with an impostor. As Marques-Cataґs figurehead, Calixto is merely posing as the head of an important commercial venture involving the firm where Margarita works. Calixto has always dreamed of having what he calls "a real lady" at his side. Margarita personifies everything that could make him happy: romantic love, social and financial success, a genuinely beautiful and elegant woman. Ashamed of his true situation in life, he is afraid of losing Margarita and decides not tell her who he really is; instead, he takes his role of rich businessman to extremes, putting himself in situations that are very stressful for him... and extremely amusing for the viewer. After becoming engaged to Margarita, Calixto decides he must confess the truth, and spends endless hours practicing the right words to say it. However, his efforts come too late; an envious "friend" tells Margarita everything... and she runs away forever, feeling used and cheated. This terrible turn of events makes Calixto tough and ambitious, determined to succeed in his own right. He enters the world of business and politics and works himself up the ladder until becoming an affluent businessman and political leader. Fifteen years later, Calixtoґs mentor has a torrid, and much criticized affair, with a younger woman he met on a trip abroad. Her name is Margot Fuentes, and Augusto tells Calixto of his intention to marry her in spite of his friendsґ and relativesґ disapproval. Calixto has the opportunity to meet Margot during a party at his newly built mansion. When Augusto walks in with his fiancee at his side, Calixto realizes she is none other than the woman he has never stopped loving: Margarita Guanchez. Calixtoґs jealousy blinds him, and he falls prey to one of the deadly sins: wrath at unrequited love. Now on equal terms with Augusto, Calixto will do everything in his power to destroy him... and to win Margarita back.
